Why is taking a foreign language important?

Taking a foreign language is important because I may need to use it in the future. For example, this weekend I went to a movie and there were French subtitles, but I could understand some of the words without the subtitles because of taking French. I've always wanted to travel so having at least a little background of the language will help me navigate if I ever have the chance to go to France or any other French speaking country.
